Software and tools

Using the right tool can make your research process more efficient. Below you find a list of widely used tools that can be of help in different parts of the research project. You are always welcome to contact the library with questions about finding the right tool for your work. 

A majority of the programs are freely available or are free for Lund University employees. Some programs are available via Software Center, in other cases you may need to contact LU Servicedesk for more information on how to install them.

Filemaker Pro: Tool for building databases (yearly fee/person)

Mindjet: Mind mapping software to be used for project managing, brainstorming, event planning, etc.

Nvivo: Tool for analyzing qualitative data

SPSS: Programme for working with statistical data (yearly fee/person)

Sunet Survey: Program for conducting online surveys

Zotero: Reference management program

VOSviewer: Software tool for constructing and visualizing bibliometric networks

Collectica for Excel: Easy way to create better metadata to your Excel spreadsheets (free- and pay version available)

CLAN: Free programme for transcribing and analyzing spoken language (available via Software Center)

Express Scribe: Transcription tool

Gephi: Open Source software for visualization and network analysis

OpenRefine: Open source tool for cleaning and transforming data 

Transkribus: Transcription and text recognition platform

Voyant: Web-based reading and analysis environment for digital texts
