The supervisor is responsible for booking a date for the public defence. The booking is made at the LUSEM faculty office, at least six weeks before the event. A maximum of two theses may be publicly defended on the same day at LUSEM – one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The supervisor is also responsible for booking a venue for the public defence, and a room for the examining committee's deliberations.
Please note that both the date and the venue for the public defence need to be booked before the proposal for the opponent, chair and examining committee is submitted to the Director of the PhD programme.
Should the PhD student wish to have a reception at LUSEM after the public defence, the Faculty room in EC3 is a suitable venue. In this case, it is up to the PhD student to book the room. It is also a good idea to make sure that there is a sufficient supply of glasses, tableware, cutlery, etc. Should extra tables and chairs be needed, please contact the caretaker's office.
